Introduction The Post Graduate Correspondence School, G.U.
was established in May, 1998 with the objectives to help the vast number of
students who, due to limited number of seats in Post Graduate classes or for
other reasons could not enroll themselves as regular students of the
University. The PGCS aims at providing an opportunity to the students to obtain
a Post Graduate degree of the Gauhati University through the mode of distance
education. The degree shall have the same standard and status as the regular
Post Graduate degree. The Post Graduate Correspondence School, G.U. is run by a
Management Board constituted by the University Authority.

Contact Centre, PGCS, G.U.
The Post Graduate Correspondence School, GU proposed to open contact centers at various
cities/towns, district head quarters of Assam and NE Region from January, 2003.
The centre will be located in Universities, colleges or institutions of high
repute of the locality.
The contact centres will be authorized to admit students on behalf of the PGCS, GU
from January, 2003 and to hold examinations if the number of candidates are
adequate.
Opening of Contact Centre at Pub
Kamrup College
Pub Kamrup College in response to the above proposal of PGCS, GU sent a letter vide
No.M/AR/PGCS/GU/2003/6067-6216 dated 8/1/2003 expressed its interest to open a
center and adopted a resolution in a meeting of the Heads of the Departments
held on 27th December, 2002 and sent necessary information in this
regard as applied for it. The PGCS in response to the application dated 27thth
December, 2002 resolved to accord permission to this college to open the
contact centre (vide letter no. PGCS/22/2002/4589).
Accordingly the contact centre was opened with the following structure:

Activities:
The Contact Centre immediately issued an advertisement in “The Assam Tribune” in its issue
on 03.01.2003 inviting applications for admission. Besides, leaflets were also
circulated locally to creat response to the correspondence courses. Notices
regarding admissions etc were issued in a separate notice Board in the college.
A signboard infront of the College campus was also displayed for prominent
observation of the interested admission aspirants.
